If all hybrids looked like this, everyone would drive one.

Tesla has a good idea too. The Tesla Roadster.
Okay, Tesla has two. Model S
If you want people to make the change to a hybrid and reduce the use of gas, you need visual incentives as well as MPG. I remember looking at something like this quite a few years ago.
It was mostly battery and very little car. The weight of the battery constituted 60% of the car. The car had a range of 80 miles and took six hours to charge.
A lot has changed over the years. It used to be, prior to the muffler, people bought electric cars to drive in peace. Others bought them to avoid the clouds of fumes.

I really, really want an electric car...as soon as it can go 300miles on a 5 minute charge (just like filling a car at a gas station), travel all day at 70 mph, have plush seats for all riders, have an effecient air conditioner, have a 5 CD player in the front and a DVD player in the back, have room for a family's luggage, cost less than $25,000.00, run on batteries that are not made with poisonous materials or a large "carbon footprint" and looks good, too.
In short, when it can do for me all that my Honda Accord or Saturn SL2 do for me today, then I'll consider one.
I have done several posts on cars over the years. They have made cars for you and I that would do all that and more. Nobody wants to fund those groups. They get closed up and hidden away.
