Another Tantrum

I know you have seen this. You are at some public place, usually a store and some child goes ballistic because they can't have what they want. Some start hitting and punching others flail on the ground like fish out of water. My personal favorate is the one who holds their breath, calm, peaceful and welcoming over the others.

Well the spoiled brat, I mean elected president of North Korea is at it again. He wants what he wants regardles of previous deals he has agreed to.

N. Korea warns intercepting 'satellite' will prompt counterstrike+

PYONGYANG/BEIJING, March 9 (AP) - (Kyodo)—North Korea warned Monday that any move to intercept what it calls a satellite launch and what other countries suspect may be a missile test-firing would result in a counterstrike against the countries trying to stop it.

"We will retaliate (over) any act of intercepting our satellite for peaceful purposes with prompt counterstrikes by the most powerful military means," the official Korean Central News Agency quoted a spokesman of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army as saying.

If countries such as the United States, Japan or South Korea try to intercept the launch, the North Korean military will carry out "a just retaliatory strike operation not only against all the interceptor means involved but against the strongholds" of the countries, it said.

"Shooting our satellite for peaceful purposes will precisely mean a war," it added.

North Korea earlier announced it is preparing to put a communications satellite into space, but outside observers suspect it may in fact be a test-firing of a long-range ballistic missile.

The United States, Japan and South Korea have said that even if Pyongyang calls the launch a missile test, it would violate existing U.N. Security Council resolutions.

The same North Korean statement said the country's military will cut off communications with its South Korean counterparts during the U.S.- South Korean exercises for the duration of the exercises beginning Monday.

A separate, more rare statement by the KPA's Supreme Command was quoted by the KCNA as saying that its soldiers are under orders to be "fully combat-ready" during U.S.-South Korean military exercises beginning Monday.

The North's armed forces have been ordered to "deal merciless retaliatory blows" should there be any intrusion "into the sky and land and seas of the DPRK even an inch."

All the ruckus and chaos, soon we will see the flailing on the ground and the pounding of fists. It's all about ME me ME me.

Couldn't he just hold his breath?

Thank You Ronald Reagan

I briefly mentioned "Star Wars".

We owe a great debt to Ronald Reagan for thinking and dreaming big. His America First way of thinking gave us the Strategic Defense Intuitive. He had the passion and courage to take this dream forward and change the world. Twenty years later we are beginning to see the power of this dream and reap the rewards.
In todays world we can no longer afford the policies of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD). We face an enemy who is amply willing to sacrifice themselves for our destruction. Their soul motivation is to take as many of us with them as possible. MAD is the policy their dreams are made of.
Today meetings are going on in Beijing with North Korea. Positive results are starting to come forward because we are now deploying our defense system. Their one and only asset that can be used as a bargaining chip is quickly devaluing. They must take steps to secure some reward before it has lost all value. The realization has come to roost that nuclear blackmail at the push of a button on a ballistic missile is fading fast. No longer can a rogue nation guarantee damage to America or its allies. Their only guarantee is the punishment that we can dole out. Their destruction and their way of life hangs in the balance not ours.
So Thank You Ronald Reagan and thank you all who have made this great deterrent possible.

The End of the World is Coming

Since 1947 the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists has kept a clock called the "Doomsday Clock". The clock is only symbolic but it has represented the tension around the planet. They are currently considering moving us closer to the end.
Article of Interest Here
With all the termoil in the world, how close do you think we are to the end? I can't count the number of commentators who have questioned how long the US can last given our divided stand on most major issues. Yet, the clock is aimed at the whole world and the many conflicts that are escalating. Most point to the fact that the clock points to nuclear weapons as the end all. The current climate places many who want or have nuclear capability as aggressors who may push the button.
We have North Korea, who has demonstrated a small detonation, wanting a method for getting what they want. Nuclear blackmail looks like the terror of the future. This would allow small groups to weild incredible power in the global market. No longer will just a few people be at risk but vast numbers of people, probably not knowing, could be on the edge at any moment. Nuclear weapons also offer secondary consequences that could have a very long term effect on a country. Governments have to develop plans on how they will deal with these threats. We are electing leaders who will be making this decision for us. Are you comfortable with those over you elected to office to make this decision?
Countries like Iran who speak out and act out when opertunity arrises, should never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. Anyone who thinks that Iran wouldn't use it hasn't been paying attention. Look at the number of times Iranian leaders have threatened others. Yes, the bulk of the threats are aimed at Isreal, but we and others have been on their list. With their known conection to terrorists they don't even need a high tech delivery system. We have invested millions into stopping balistic missles but our open borders make missles a thing of the past.

Once again the same issues that upset the average American are still the big issues today.

Nuclear Test?

North Korea tried to show the world that they too are one of the big players and deserve respect in the eyes of the world. After a few days of intense laughter the world got the message and started working toward sanctions. They sanctioned things like Champaign, cigars and push up bras. Kim Jong-Ill has been hurt terribly by this and is secretly planning a second test to clear the record. He can't earn respect the old fashion way, so he throws tantrums and blows things up. He wants us to get the message, "I am a spoiled brat and I will get my way."

The media keeps telling us that Iran is watching and will stop its activity if we handle NK right. What kind of fool would think that one nut job even cares what another nut job is doing? There is more likely to be a case of attention needed. "Look NK is getting all the attention. We need to do something bigger so we can be on the front page too."

Even the Iraqi insurgants have figured out the press cycle and make sure they kill a dozen or so people in a timely manner to keep up the media blitz. It all comes down to working the world press. You need a good press advisor in order to keep your name on the front page.

Well, I think the US could use a couple of front page stories. What do you say we do a couple of nuclear tests of our own? I can get the coordinates.

Will The Next U.N. Secretary-General Make A Difference?

South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon will probably be appointed on Friday. I was rather surpised to learn it was the minister form South Korea. With all the hot conflicts in the world who would guess that someone from one of the hottest would rise to Secretary-General. How much will this effect the future of the UN? As far as I am concerned anything is better then what we have. I love the three priorities:
Ban said he would have three priorities as secretary-general.
His first
priority is the make the U.N. "more efficient and effective and relevant" in
meeting the challenges of the 21st century, he said.
Secondly, he said, "I
(will) try my utmost efforts to bring the trust and confidence among member
states."
Ban said his third priority is to use the U.N.'s limited resources
and manpower more effectively and try to reduce "the redundancies and
overlappings" in the "overstretched" organization.

Priority #1 should be tough enough let alone adding 2 and 3. I would love to hear the plan on how he will pull this off. Perhaps somebody suffering under the hot seat of a major world issue will bring more to the table. You don't expect the nut case from the north to slow down any given the new head man. Nothing beats having a real investment in a conflict as a form of motivation.

Next year should be real interesting at the UN.
